the flight is longer, an energy problem arises. The ideal solution is of course a power bank.

Maximum Capacity of Electronic Devices on Board an Aircraft

Power Bank on a Plane

Most airlines will have no problem tolerating a power bank on board. You therefore do not need to worry about your device running out of battery during work or entertainment, ruining your first flight. The place for a power bank is in your carry-on luggage. Do not forget to secure your airport parking in advance as well.

Individual Airline Rules

There is one key restriction for transporting power banks. Their capacity should not exceed 100 Wh, which is equivalent to 27,027 mAh. However, this value may differ between specific airlines. Prague Airport permits a maximum value of 100 Wh. The same condition is stated by Smartwings. Ryanair and Lufthansa even allow two power banks per person on board. Czech Airlines allow you to travel with two power banks with a capacity of 100 to 160 Wh.

Larger Batteries or Lithium-Ion Batteries (Above the Capacity Limit May Be Prohibited)

Manufacturers state that ninety percent of power banks fall within the stated limit without any problem. A device would have to be truly large to fail the airport security check. It is a different matter for devices that contain a Li-ion (lithium-ion) battery. These devices are considered a potential hazard, which is why special aviation regulations have been issued for them.

Which Power Bank to Take on a Plane by Capacity

30,000 mAh Power Bank on a Plane

This is a very powerful power bank that is an ideal solution for longer stays without electricity or for travelling. The problem is that you will most likely not be able to bring it on the plane. As already mentioned, these devices are permitted up to a maximum capacity of 27,027 mAh.

20,000 mAh Power Bank on a Plane

A solution that is ideal for use on a plane. Moreover, a 20,000 mAh power bank can be fully relied upon for charging multiple devices. It can charge a regular phone up to six times and a laptop an average of 2.5 times. For an iPad, the average is 1.4 times.

Power Banks with a Capacity of 5,000–10,000 mAh

If you prefer compactness and do not have greater demands for charging multiple devices during the flight, then this option is exactly right for you. These power banks are not only sufficiently powerful, but also fit easily into a smaller carry-on bag.

Other Electronics on a Plane

Phone on Board (During the Flight and Landing, Your Phone Should Be in Aeroplane Mode)

Until recently, there was a belief that a switched-on phone could cause a plane to crash. This is not entirely true. If you forget to switch it to ‘aeroplane mode’, pilots may hear an unpleasant buzzing or crackling in their headsets. You can observe a similar effect at home when making a call near a switched-on radio. Not all phones have this problem. It also depends on the altitude and type of aircraft. However, the general rule is that every passenger should automatically activate ‘aeroplane mode’ before boarding. This information is common knowledge and a basic part of understanding how airports work.

Laptop – Air Travel

Virtually every airline will allow you to bring a laptop on a plane. These electronic devices are such a common part of our everyday lives that carriers simply take them for granted.

Other Electronic Devices (Tablets, Cameras, etc.)

If you want to store a video camera, camera or other similar devices in your checked luggage, they must be stored without their power batteries. The batteries must be transported in carry-on luggage without exception. They also fall into the category of valuables and should not be in checked luggage at all. If they were to be damaged, the airline bears no responsibility.

Electric Shock Weapons (Tasers, Stun Guns)

These devices are not permitted on board an aircraft under any circumstances.

Smart Luggage with an Installed Lithium Battery (Smart Bags)

If the battery output exceeds 2.7 Wh or the capacity cannot be determined, the transport of these devices is prohibited in both the hold and the aircraft cabin. If the battery can be removed, it must be transported separately in the aircraft cabin.

Summary: Power Bank on a Plane

If you want to take a power bank on a plane, you need to find out its capacity. You can usually find this information directly on the device. This condition must be observed, as failing to comply may result in the power bank being confiscated without any right to compensation.

Another rule is that electronics should not be in checked luggage — especially expensive items. In your carry-on luggage, you can protect them yourself from potential damage. Just to be sure, also find out how to add extra luggage to your flight ticket.
