Airport Security Screening – What to Watch Out for Before the Check

After check-in, when your identity and travel documents are verified by the airline, you will receive your boarding pass. The security screening process then follows.

Check Your Luggage Before Security Screening

Before heading to security, carefully inspect your luggage to avoid unnecessary issues.

Only Bring Essential Items on Board

The best way to avoid problems is to carry only essential items in your hand luggage, such as your travel documents, phone, or laptop.

Follow Staff Instructions

Security personnel are very strict during screening. Follow their instructions to ensure the process goes as smoothly and quickly as possible.

Do Not Be Afraid

Stay calm and avoid appearing nervous. Suspicious behavior may attract unwanted attention.

How Airport Security Screening Works Step by Step

During the security screening process, both you and your carry-on baggage will be checked.

Before Passing Through the Scanner

Before going through the scanner, security staff will ask you to remove your coat, sweater, hoodie, belt, high boots, jewelry, and watch. Remove all metal objects from your pockets, including coins.

Place Metal Objects in the Tray

Put all metal items such as watches, belts, mobile phones, and wallets containing coins into the plastic tray provided.

Implants, Piercings, or Metal Screws in the Body

If you have metal items inside your body, such as piercings, metal implants, or a pacemaker, inform security staff in advance. Travelers with metal implants or pacemakers should carry a medical certificate, preferably in English. Passengers with pacemakers should also have confirmation that they are fit to travel by air.

Laptop, Tablet, Liquids, and Cosmetics

Remove your laptop, tablet, and all liquids, including cosmetics, from your carry-on bag. Place them separately for inspection.

Place Your Carry-On Bag on the Conveyor Belt

You can now place your carry-on luggage on the moving conveyor belt and walk through the security gate.

Suspicious Item Found in Carry-On Luggage

If security staff discover something suspicious in your bag, you will be asked to open it. Problems may arise, for example, with medications carried on board. Always bring a medical certificate if you need them. Even a water bottle can become a problematic item.

Additional Swab Testing

In rare cases, security staff may perform swab tests on your hands, shoes, clothing, or luggage. The swab is analyzed by a machine to determine whether the person has handled explosives or other prohibited substances.

Everything Is Cleared

If everything is in order, you may collect your personal belongings and carry-on baggage and continue your journey through the airport.

Proceed to the Duty-Free Area

After security screening, you can enjoy the departure area, often called the duty-free zone. Here you will find cafés, restaurants, and shops offering tax-free products. However, always keep an eye on your departure time and boarding gate.

Conclusion

Prepare not only for your vacation but also for the airport procedures you will encounter. Make sure you know which items are allowed on board and which are prohibited.

Pay special attention to carrying liquids correctly, scissors hidden in children’s cases, or your favorite pocket knife. Always follow the instructions of airport staff and remain calm throughout the process.

We wish you a smooth and hassle-free passage through airport security.
